"Being American"

What is “Being American”?

There are so many different perspectives

Which one do we listen to?

“Being American” is drinking bad beer at a tailgate before a football game

“Being American” is making a bracket and watching March Madness

“Being American” is putting down money against our favorite team because we know they are going to lose

“Being American” is watching a marching band, thinking “That looks cool….moving on….where’s the hot guy two rows down?”

 “Being American” is looking up to an athlete when you’re a kid, when only years later you find out your hero was using

“Being American” is getting let down because life doesn’t happen fast enough

“Being American” is getting let down because you feel as though each day moves slower and slower  and it appears as though you’re the only single person in the room even though statics show people are getting married at an older age each year

“Being American” is okcupid, Christian mingle, plenty of fish, and you guessed it eharomony

“Being American” is facebook, twitter, tumblr, youtube:  anything to get your face out there and your feelings out of your head so you don’t have to go to a psychiatrist like every other person in America to obtain drugs that make you feel “normal”

“Being American” is taking Xanex, Cymbalta, Prozac, Wellbutrin, Zoloft, Lunesta, Melatonin, Ambian, Yaz, Lybrel, Ortho Tri-Cyclen, imperial elixir – male vitality, natural factors sexual vitality for men, and magna RX

Are you laughing? If you’re not, it’s because you’re just “Being American” and taking yourself too seriously

“Being American” is being able to ride down the street on my bike and not being afraid to get shot

“Being American” is not being able to ride down the street on my bike because I might look like a fag and get shot

“Being American” is going to Pride in Houston, TX on a hot, sunny, summer day

“Being American” is marching, walking, jogging, dancing, leaping, standing, and screaming for what I believe in

“Being American” is going to your High School Prom with your High School Sweet Heart that you actually broke up with a week before prom ,true story, (I broke up with him) and still having a fantastic time

“Being American” is having seen every Disney Movie ever made and loving every one of them, while at the same time seeing porn before your balls have even dropped

“Being American” is going to your cousins choir concert, thinking “Dear God can someone just shoot me?! Oh hey now they’re singing a cool mash up I think I’ll stay.”

“Being American” is listening to Lady Gaga, Beyonce, John Fogerty, the Backstreet Boy, N,Sync, Miranda Lambert, George Straight, Fleetwood Mac, Imagine Dragons, Daft Punk, Miley Cyrus, Billie Holliday, and Frank Sinatra

“Being American” is wanting to light up the world with Jesus because you feel as though the world is filled with darkness, because it is, but you probably are filled with the darkness too.

“Being American” is knowing that on September 11th someone actually got in.  They got inside America and we were scared shitless of what was to come.

“Being American” is watching your friends, brothers, sisters, lovers, husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, go off to war to fight for something that not everyone in American even believes in, but they care that much about “Being American” to do it and not have any regrets when they come home because they know they did right by “Being American”

“Being American” is sweat and blood; tears and faith; laugher and smiles; black and white; Asian and Hispanic; Cuban and Czech; the rich, middle class, and the poor

“Being American” takes all kinds

“Being American” will only stop if we do
